Two high level takeaways could be A) using M and DAX together (appropriately) and B) thinking through the details of the trade-offs of DirectQuery with In-Memory. Prior to SSAS 2016+ and Power BI Desktop, model design and development was almost exclusive to In-Memory mode and DAX. Now and going forward with SSAS vNext it’s important to be familiar with M language and DirectQuery mode too.
